Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Lenham School is proud to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is important because it challenges young people to step outside their comfort zones, build resilience, and develop valuable life skills. Through a combination of volunteering, physical activity, skills development, and adventurous expeditions, students gain confidence, independence, and a strong sense of achievement. The award is widely recognised by universities and employers, making it a powerful way to stand out while making a positive impact in the community.

Employers value the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award because it demonstrates a wide range of important personal and professional qualities. Completing the award shows commitment, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and time management - skills that are highly transferable to the workplace. It also highlights a young person’s willingness to take on challenges, learn new things, and contribute to their community. Because the award is well-recognised and respected across many industries, this can help students stand out and show they have gone above and beyond academic achievement.

More information on how the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme works can be accessed here.

The Lenham School offers all three levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

  • Bronze (Year 9)
  • Silver  (Year 10)
  • Gold (Age 16+)

All levels lead to a Duke of Edinburgh Award. To achieve the Award particpants are required to complete a personal programme of activities across four sections:

  • Volunteering
  • Physical
  • Skills
  • Expedition
  • For Gold Award, particpants must complete an additional residential section (where participants spend five days and four nights away from home completing a shared activity)

Evidence must be regularly submitted to show the progress towards the Award.

The Lenham School partner with Ad Astrex in order to facilitate the Gold expedition.
