Online Safety

Use of Technology

At The Lenham School we believe that technology should be embedded throughout teaching and learning and that the most suitable technology is used at all times so as to provide an interesting, engaging and fulfilling curriculum. We also believe that it is an essential part of every individual’s learning experience that they are aware of how to use new and existing technologies suitably, effectively and most importantly, safely.

Acceptable Use Agreement

All staff and students agree to the schools’ AUA (Acceptable Use Agreement). This agreement details how all users are expected to behave online and how they should use the technology available to them. Although we take all necessary measures to protect our users from accessing inappropriate content, this can never be policed 100% and it is therefore important that as parents you take an interest in what your children are doing and how they are using technology.

Precautions

We recommend ensuring that all passwords are “strong”. This means that they should not be easily guessed, they should include upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols as a minimum. They should not be shared with anyone else and the same password should not be used for all accounts. At home you should ensure that you have adequate and up-to-date anti-virus/anti-spyware software and that firewalls are turned on.

Content Filtering

At The Lenham School our Internet Service Provider is EIS. They also provide our web filtering, for our web filtering software we use Lightspeed.

The Lenham School filters and monitors Internet use to ensure the school can meet its duty of care to all students and staff by ensuring that access to inappropriate material is blocked.
