Advice for KS3 Options

During Year 9 you will be asked to choose your General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) subjects. For the first time in your school journey you will be given some choice over what you can study.

You already may have some ideas about what you would like to study but here are some top tips in thinking about what to pick to study at GCSE:

  • Pick a subject based on your interest in that subject - this is your future;
  • Think about your options carefully, don’t pick a subject in the spur of the movement; carefully think about the benefits studying that subject could bring to your learning journey
  • Ask your teachers for advice about what you will study in the course and how you will be assessed
  • Think about how this fits into your long term career goals.
  • Pick a subject you are interested in, you are the one who has to sit the exams for that subject.

You will be supported through the Options process. You will be offered an Advice and Guidance Meeting with a member of staff on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). You will also have an Options Evening, where the pathwatys, process and the different subject options will be explained to you.
